A collection of cardboard designs, which can be defined as “historic” today is Easy Edges, a series of furniture projects by Frank Gehry designed between 1969 and 1973, which among the first experiences the potential of cardboard in design. Projects that somehow contributed to the success of Frank Gehry himself in the 70s.
Gehry’s use of cardboard as a medium shows the manipulation of a base material in an unconventional way, for the production of functional objects, but also of great visual impact “such as the Easy Edges Sleigh chair from 1969 or the Easy Edges Body Contour Rocker 1971. Gehry favored the simplicity of corrugated cardboard, a material already frequently used in his architectural models.
